Physicals

Schools and athletic organizations require a number of physical exams and preventative measures to make sure participation is safe and healthy for all. As a parent, you must comply with these requirements, and you also want to be certain that your child is healthy and physically fit to participate in all sports and activities. Kentucky Health and Wellness understands these needs and is available to promptly provide required medical services in a timely manner.

School and sports physicals, also known as pre-participation physical evaluations (PPEs), are health exams that assess a child’s ability to participate in physical activities. They help ensure that children can play sports safely and identify any conditions that could increase the risk of injury.

School and Sport Physicals:
Medical History: The healthcare provider reviews the child's medical history and asks about their health
Vital Signs: The child's height, weight, blood pressure, pulse, and temperature are measured
Musculoskeletal Assessment: The child's joints, muscles, and bones are checked for weaknesses, imbalances, or conditions like scoliosis
General Exam: The child's heart, lungs, abdomen, ears, nose, and throat are checked
Vision Test: The child's vision is tested, including color vision
Skin Exam: The child's skin is examined for allergies or infections
Work and DOT Physicals:
A work physical, also known as a pre-employment physical, is a medical exam that employers may require to determine if a candidate is fit for a job. It can also be called a pre-employment health screening.
Medical History: A review of past illnesses, surgeries, injuries, and chronic conditions
Physical Exam: A check of vital signs, respiratory and cardiovascular health, vision, hearing, range of motion, and reflexes
Lab Tests: The child's joints, muscles, and bones are checked for weaknesses, imbalances, or conditions like scoliosis
Drug and Alcohol Testing : A test to detect the presence of drugs or alcohol in the candidate's system
Fit for Duty Assessment: A test of the candidate's physical capabilities for specific tasks, such as lifting heavy objects
